A European cultural space dedicated to dialogue and encounters between cultures

A project initiated by EUNIC Romania, open from 6 October 2026 at Hotel Minerva.

From Timișoara to Craiova

Initiated by EUNIC Romania – the network of European Union National Institutes for Culture, HEI offers a cultural programme connected both to European themes and perspectives and to the needs of local communities.

HEI was established in Timișoara in 2023, as part of Timișoara – European Capital of Culture, as a space dedicated to collaboration and reflection on issues relevant to contemporary society. For three years, from 2023 to 2025, HEI was part of the city’s cultural life, activating two historic spaces through exhibitions, intercultural encounters, workshops, performances, and community events.

In autumn 2026, HEI continues its mission in Craiova, connecting European perspectives with local realities and initiatives in one of the city’s landmark buildings: the historic Hotel Minerva, at 1 Mihail Kogălniceanu Street.

During this first stage, HEI Craiova is hosted by Hotel Minerva until the building enters a renovation and restoration process.

A new multicultural space in Craiova

The HEI – House of European Institutes multicultural centre aims to strengthen Craiova’s European dimension while bringing the city’s creativity to a wider European audience.

The centre offers a curatorial programme focused on socially engaged art, addressing issues of regional and global relevance. The programme promotes European heritage and art through cultural exchange and through greater awareness of cultural practices from other countries.

Admission to all HEI public events is free and open to all members of the community, regardless of age, ability, ethnicity, or gender.
