British Council Romania and Constanța State Theatre are organising the Accessibility Incubator, a three-day workshop for representatives of theatres and performing arts institutions in Romania who wish to develop more accessible and inclusive cultural practices.
The incubator will bring together representatives from:
- Constanța State Theatre
- “Radu Stanca” National Theatre, Sibiu
- “Marin Sorescu” National Theatre, Craiova
- “Maria Filotti” Theatre, Brăila
- “Bacovia” Municipal Theatre, Bacău
The workshop will be led by two UK experts with extensive experience in the field: Sara Beer, a disabled artist and currently Director for Change at Craidd in Wales, and Jonathan Meth, curator, dramaturg, lecturer and Director of the international network The Fence, as well as co-author of the research report Arts and Disability in Romania.
Over the three days, participants will explore accessibility and inclusion in the performing arts from a range of perspectives, including attitudes and communication, the accessibility of buildings and websites, artistic programming, partnerships, and relationships with disabled audiences and artists.
The incubator aims to support participants in developing inclusive and sustainable practices, encourage them to become agents of change within their organisations, and connect them through a network of professionals who can support one another throughout this process.
