Since 2014, following the birth of her daughter with Down syndrome, the theatre has focused on actors with Down syndrome, leading Jitka to develop “actor-specific” theatre. She holds a PhD in Dramatic Arts and works at JAMU’s Institute of Theatre and Education in Brno.
The session: Theatre actor-specific: changing disabilities (in everyday life) into abilities (on stage)
How do we move from inclusive intentions to a professional artistic practice? Jitka Vrbková shares insights on the evolution of Aldente Theatre and her collaboration with actors and authors with Down syndrome. Through her ‘actor-specific’ approach, Jitka brings practical insights into challenging barriers and making theatre that centres on the ways actors with Down syndrome perceive and interact with the world.
