Pe 18 februarie ne întâlnim la al doilea EUNIC Book Club din acest an, ca să discutăm despre romanul Dragostea în timpul schimbărilor climatice globale (în traducerea Hellianei Ianculescu, editura Casa Cărții de Știință). Discuția va fi moderată de Gabriela Georgescu.

 „Dragostea în timpul schimbărilor climatice globale, de Josef Pánek, în traducerea Hellianei Ianculescu, este o revelație. Este o operă literară contemporană cu un flux narativ distinctiv, care încearcă să exprime lipsa de rădăcini a omului modern, în timp ce examinează paroxismul rasismului și xenofobia din perspectiva unui cetățean al lumii. Romanul lui Pánek deconcertează cititorul prin abrazivitatea sa lingvistică și abordarea autodistructivă, egocentrică a protagonistului său, stilul lui narativ fiind la fel de agitat și îmbătător ca orașul exotic în care se desfășoară acțiunea.”(novinky.cz)

Am ales acest roman deoarece prezintă o reflecție originală și puternică asupra zilelor noastre, a lumii interconectate și a stereotipurilor actuale. Subiectele abordate sunt, într-o anumită măsură, universale, ușor de înțeles oricărui cititor, iar stilul narațiunii amintește, pe alocuri, de cel al lui Bohumil Hrabal, chiar dacă Pánek scrie într-un mod intenționat neșlefuit, cititorul trebuind să se imerseze în poveste pentru a o asimila

Adapting is the buzzword of the moment. Facing a drastic drop in the students’ mobility due to the pandemic, the European higher education sector is searching for solutions to keep alive young people’s interest for a studying experience away from home. Brexit could make things easier. In many EU member countries, universities are lowering their fees, providing tempting study offers in order to attract the young Europeans exploring new studying opportunities while the access to the UK universities became more difficult.

The second EUNIC MIXERS debate on studying in the EU opportunities, in times of pandemic and Brexit, invites three experts from Germany, Austria and Belgium. They will analyse the situation in their respective countries and suggest concrete solutions for all of you who intend to study abroad.

EUNIC MIXERS is a series of live, online discussions about the adaptations of the cultural sector to the changes during the pandemic, with guests from European countries, represented by the cultural institutes from the EUNIC Romania network, together with Romanian cultural practitioners. Event organized by EUNIC Romania and Insula 42.

The series “Salon Insula 42” launches informal dialogues with cultural professionals. The guests put into perspective the relationship between people and ideas, people and institutions, in Romania and in Europe. They talk, in an “imaginary salon”, about vocation and trades, cultural, social and political subjects, in a world that is radically transformed.

The 7th discussion focuses on the main changes impacting the film and audio-visual industry in Europe due to the COVID-19 situation, under the theme Funding Films Today. Which is the impact of closing cinema venues all over the world? What concerns and solutions do practitioners from the film industry have during this period? What appears to be the future of film festivals if isolation measures are prolonged? What are the consequences of the generalized use of VOD and streaming services on the production of European film? How is the TV entertainment industry impacted by the COVID situation? Representatives of European countries will discuss the funding films situation at the end of 2020, together with the moderator Corina Șuteu.

Guest speakers:
 Radu Mihăileanu, a Romanian-born French film director and screenwriter. He left Romania in 1980 and graduated the IDHEC cinematographic institute in Paris. In addition to his work in the cinema he published a book of poems in 1987 titled Une vague en mal de mer. With Train de vie, his second full-length feature-film, won him international renown (oscar nominations for best script and best actor, the Fipresci prize at Venice, the People’s Choice Award at Sundance and the David di Donatello for best foreign film). Radu Mihăileanu was once again tempted by the wish to document history, and its descriptions of the Jewish villages in central Europe. He was declared ‘Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur’ (13 July 2013) and ‘Officier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres’ (16 January 2014), two of the highest decorations in France.

 Alexander Dumreicher-Ivanceanu, Austrian-Romanian film producer and chairman of the Austrian trade association of audiovisual media. In 1989, he starts to work as an independent film critic for Austria’s Public Radio Station ORF and several newspapers and film magazines. From 1992 on, he works as a distributor for Polyfilm Verleih, as a film programmer for movie theatres and as a curator for film festivals in Germany, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg and Austria. From 1994 to 2000 he’s co-managing director of the distribution company Danube Entertainment (Munich). In 1995, Dumreicher-Ivanceanu and film director Bady Minck create the production company AMOUR FOU Luxembourg and, in 2001, AMOUR FOU Vienna. The two branches company realise artistically exceptional feature, documentary and short films for the international market with international and, most frequently, European partners.

Moderator:
Corina Șuteu – Passionate about the emerging and controversial disciplines of cultural management and cultural policies, Corina Șuteu is an international cultural consultant, president of Film ETC. and curator of the Insula 42 space, together with her closest collaborators. For 9 years, she was the director of the European Master’s degree in Cultural management of the Business School in Dijon. In 1995 she initiated the first regional training program in cultural management for Eastern European professionals, the ECUMEST program. Corina Șuteu was Romania’s Minister of Culture from May 2016-January 2017, following a mandate of State Secretary from January-May 2016, championing the adoption of a new cinema law in support of Romanian cinema production, distribution and audience development, as well as advancing reforms in the field of performing arts institutions and heritage, including advancing the enlisting of the Rosia Montana site on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List.
From 2006 to 2012 she was the Director of the Romanian Cultural Institute (RCI) in New York. She also held the presidency of the network of European Cultural Institutes in NYC (EUNIC) in 2010. She is author of “Another brick in the wall. A critical review of cultural management education in Europe” (Boekman Foundation, Amsterdam, 2006) and of numerous articles and studies.

Autorul este la ora actuală una dintre revelațiile cele mai surprinzătoare ale literaturii portugheze. (Jose Saramago). Romanul Autobiografia împletește realitatea cu ficțiunea într-un joc al oglinzilor ce pune față-n față doi mari scriitori: José Saramago și José Luís Peixoto.În Lisabona anilor ’90, drumul unui tânăr scriitor aflat în plină criză existențială – similară celei pe care a trăit-o Peixoto însuși – se intersectează cu cel al unui mare scriitor mai vârstnic: José Saramago. Din relația celor doi se naște această poveste, în care granițele dintre ficțiune și autobiografie se diluează până la dispariție. José Luís Peixoto explorează în acest joc de oglinzi absolut unic creația literară și frontiera translucidă dintre viață și literatură. În același timp, își sondează propriile obsesii într-o proză plină de detalii și de lirism ce a marcat literatura contemporană portugheză.

José Luís Peixoto s-a născut în 1974, într-un sat din sudul Portugaliei, în regiunea numită Alentejo. Este licențiat în limbi și literaturi germanice al Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Înainte de a se dedica scrisului, a predat timp de un an. A scris poezie, proză, teatru și critică literară. A primit premiul Jovens Criadores (Tineri creatori) în 1997, 1998 și 2000. În 2001, primul său roman, Nici o privire, a primit Premiul José Saramago. Au urmat alte două romane, Uma Casa na Escuridão (2002) și Cimitirul pianelor (2006). În 2003, într-un proiect fără precedent, Peixoto și-a unit forțele cu membrii formației Moonspell, lansând, în același timp, un album și un mic roman fantastic. A mai publicat romanele Livro (2010) și Galveias (2014). Autobiografia este cel mai recent roman al său.

23 November 2020 marks 100 years since the birth of Romanian-born German-language poet and translator Paul Celan, a multicultural intellectual whose literary work was appreciated throughout Europe, and whose life and work have inspired generations.On his centennial, join curators Anna McNay and Peter Harrap, professor Gabriel H. Decuble and artist Marius von Brasch for an online conversation celebrating Paul Celan’s life, work and artistic legacy as seen through the lens of two anniversary exibitions: ‘Celan 100 – Printre Cuvinte / Unter den Wörtern’ and ‘Beyond Other Horizons / Dincolo de alte orizonturi’.
The online panel talk will be followed by a closing statement from artist and curator Florin Ungureanu.

Exhibitions:

The ‘Beyond Other Horizons / Dincolo de alte orizonturi’ exhibition showcased contemporary British and Romanian painting, and was inspired by the themes of Paul Celan’s ’Mapesbury Road’ poem. 40 British and 40 Romanian Artists exhibited artworks at the Iași Palace of Culture. The exhibition was brought together by artist curator Peter Harrap; writer and curator Anna McNay; and artist Florin Ungureanu, and funded by the Romanian Cultural Institute. ‘Celan 100 – Printre Cuvinte / Unter den Wörtern’ is an exhibition celebrating the 100th birthday and 50th anniversary of Paul Celan’s death. The exhibition, which illuminates the life and work of the linguistic genius Paul Celan, was developed by the Bucharest National Museum of Romanian Literature, the German Studies Department of the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University of Bucharest and the Austrian Cultural Forum Bucharest. Speakers:

Anna McNay – co-curator, ‘Beyond Other Horizons / Dincolo de alte orizonturi’. Anna is an art writer, editor and curator based in the UK. She has considerable experience of writing catalogue essays, as well as reviews, profiles, interviews and features for online and print publications. She frequently conducts live interviews and hosts and speaks on panels at galleries and art schools.

Peter Harrap – co-curator, ‘Beyond Other Horizons / Dincolo de alte orizonturi’. Peter is a British/ Romanian artist and curator. His exhibitions include No New Thing under the Sun (Royal Academy of Arts), Constable and Brighton: Something out of Nothing (Brighton Museum for the Arts Council) and Beyond Other Horizons, bringing together 80 artists to mark Paul Celan poetry and centenary at Iasi Palace of Culture. He exhibits internationally with a forthcoming exhibition in Los Angeles, USA planned for the summer of 2021.

Gabriel H. Decuble – co-curator, ‘Celan 100 – Printre Cuvinte / Unter den Wörtern’. Gabriel H. Decuble is a Romanian writer, translator and professor at the University of Bucharest, where he teaches Old and Modern German Literature and Comparative Literature. He has published numerous papers on literary theory, philosophy of religion, monographies about Nietzsche or the hagiography, as well as original poetry, novel, short prose.

Marius von Brasch – artist, exhibiting in ‘Beyond Other Horizons / Dincolo de alte orizonturi’. Dr. Marius von Brasch is a German-British painter who completed his practice-based PhD research in Fine Art Painting at Winchester School of Art. He was awarded Abbey Fellowship in Painting at the British School at Rome in 2013, exhibits widely and has a background in literature and psychotherapy.

Florin Ungureanu – co-curator, ‘Beyond Other Horizons / Dincolo de alte orizonturi’. Florin Ungureanu is a British/Romanian artist and curator. He holds a ‘Master of Fine Art’ degree form Goldsmiths College, University of London and has lived and exhibited internationally. His work explores the concepts of power, politics, history, identity and death through irony and humour.

The ‘Connected through culture: Paul Celan 100’ online event will be broadcast on Monday, from 18.00 Romania time, on the EUNIC Romania, British Council Romania and Austrian Cultural Forum Facebook pages. Literatură contemporană pentru copii
Pitch pentru edituri

La inițiativa Institutului Cultural Maghiar din București clusterul EUNIC România propune editurilor din România o nouă serie de cărți pentru copii în vederea publicării lor în limba română. Cărțile sunt selectate din literatura contemporană europeană, iar editurilor sunt prezentate texte traduse în limba română.

Literatura pentru copii din secolul al XX-lea s-a caracterizat prin expansiune și îmbogățire continuă. Literatura l-a descoperit pe copil, astăzi se scrie despre și pentru el. La fel ca literatura în general, și literatura pentru copii variază de la o epocă la alta. Literatura europeană contemporană pentru copii îi invită pe cititori, părinți și copii deopotrivă, să gândească și să mediteze. Am dori să prezentăm această diversitate prin intermediul unor cărți europene contemporane de literatură pentru copii.Proiectul se va desfășura în mai multe etape: în decursul lunii noiembrie vom demara o campanie online prin popularizarea acestor texte, spre sfârșitul lunii noiembrie vom prezenta textele sub forma unui spectacol-lectură, iar într-un final vom discuta online despre receptarea literaturii contemporane pentru copii în România şi despre traducerile literaturii pentru copii cu invitaţii Simina Popa şi Claudiu Sfirschi-Lăudat.
